Our theme this year is Having 2020 vision of being Christlike and a light.  Today we want to look at how Jesus felt about the End Times and Light definitely is part of it.

What Did Jesus Say About The End Times?

Text:               Matthew 25:1-13, “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.”  nkj

WE often look at this parable for Salvation, but do we recognize that the reason for the Salvation call in this parable is because the end is coming, and we don’t know when? We must always be ready.

The Parable is about Personal preparedness.  BE PREPARED for Christ’s return.

What does that look like?  When you think of your soul, what does this preparing mean?

If we inspect the elements of the parable, I think we will get a better understanding.

Took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

How does the LIGHT fit into this parable?

They all had a basic grasp of the fact that there would be an encounter.  In this parable it is as if both groups had understood that a connection with God was necessary, but only one group understood that it was all about relationship.

Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Wise brought oil.  For us this represents BEING READY.  What does that look like?

A supply of oil means the flame won’t go out.

How do you ensure your relationship with God doesn’t get extinguished?

It is all about relationship.

How do you keep a relationship with your best friend alive and vibrant?

Remember that God IS our best Friend.  Many of the same principles apply.

So how can you do these things with the Father in Heaven?

The Bible is one of God’s  ways of speaking to us.  Prayer is another for Him and US to both communicate.

What are some other ways?

The Law and the Prophets are full of examples of the relationship with God being extinguished – HOW?

First, do the opposite of keeping it alive and vibrant.

go out to meet him!’  The time comes – the Groom is here. Now we see the problem.

‘Give us some of your oil’

Can’t be done – there’s only enough for us.

Can’t be done – I can only be saved for ME – YOU must take care of your own soul.

Have you ever tried to create a relationship between two people if you WERE NOT one of the 2?  How does that work out?

You can’t maintain a relationship between 2 people if you aren’t one of the 2 people.  You can give them advice.  You can make suggestions.  You can create opportunities for them to be together and communicate, but you CAN’T make the relationship.  Only THEY can.

And while they went to buy… the door was shut.

Lord, Lord, open to us!’ … ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

You can’t develop your relationship WHEN He comes back.  NOW is the time.

Jesus IS returning, and it is sooner than it has ever been.

Have you started your relationship with God?

So, what are you doing with your relationship to keep it vibrant and alive and to ensure that it doesn’t get extinguished?

If you don’t feel like you are being Christlike, why don’t you start or re-start the Christlike journey and give your life to Him in full surrender.  Ask Him to forgive you and He will. Remember it is God who makes us Christlike.
